Police have arrested another suspect following this week’s dramatic shootout with a robbery gang in Rosettenville in Johannesburg.
According to police, the suspect is believed to be the one who fired at a police helicopter wounding the pilot and co-pilot during the multi-disciplinary operation on Monday targeting a cash-in-transit gang.
Police said the latest suspect was arrested on Wednesday in Thembisa on the East Rand.
Eight robbery suspects were killed and several police members and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers were wounded in the dramatic gunfight which saw gang members fleeing into the yards and homes of local residents to get away.
Ten suspects who appeared in court on Wednesday have been charged with 8 counts of murder, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of explosives, and possession of hijacked vehicles.
They will be back in court in March.
