The former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Steinhoff was granted bail of R150 000 in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court Wednesday.
Andries Benjamin La Grange, 49, is the latest accused in the Steinhoff saga to be granted bail of R150 000 after his co-accused and former Director of Steinhoff, Stephanus Johannes Grobler, 64 also got bail in March.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Lumka Mahanjana says they are facing charges of racketeering, three of fraud worth R21 billion, manipulation of financial statements and the failure to report fraudulent activities.
She says the state did not oppose his bail as he is not considered a flight risk but will be subjected to strict bail conditions.
La Grange must report to the Sandton police station every Monday between 6 am- 6 pm, hand over his passport, and is not allowed to apply for a new one, furthermore, he will not be allowed to leave Gauteng without informing the Investigating Officer.
Mahanjana says he may also not interfere with state witnesses and must notify the police if he changes his address.
The matter was postponed to the 4th of October.
According to the state the CEO of Steinhoff, Markus Jooste, who is now deceased, alongside Le Grange and Grobler, conducted racketeering activities within the Steinhoff group, captured by certain executive employees.
The alleged offences took place between 2016 and 2019.
During that period, it is alleged that Jooste played a major role in the criminal enterprise.
