Murder accused Nico Henning appeared briefly in the District Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The case was postponed to November 13 for the completion of further investigations.
Prosecutor Gerrie Nel says they have agreed on a postponement and are confident that they will be able to proceed with the matter on that date.
He says Henning will appear again in court in the interim before the set date, specifically for a matter regarding his bail conditions.
Henning is to face trial for the murder of his estranged wife, Chanelle Henning.
The 26-year-old was shot dead shortly after dropping off their child at a creche in Faerie Glen, Pretoria, in November 2011.
Nico Henning's friend, 49-year old Andre Gouws, and former Nigerian athlete Ambrose Monye have both been sentenced to life in prison, while two other men, Gerhardus du Plessis and Willem Pieterse, are serving 18-year prison terms after confessing to their roles in the killing.
