The ANC has welcomed the arrest of four suspects for the attack on party MP, Jackson Mthembu.
Mthembu was shot in the chest when he was confronted by a group of men at an ATM in Emahalhleni in Mpumalanga on Sunday.
Party national spokesperson, Khusela Sangoni, says the quicker one gets to the bottom of the matter, the quicker they can dispel the notion of a political motive behind the attack.
"As the ANC we believe that criminality of any kind should not be tolerated in our country. We hope that the suspects will soon be charged and brought to face the wrath of our law" she said
Meanwhile, Sangoni says Mthembu is recovering well in hospital.
"Comorade Jackson is recovering well, he is still in intesive care, but in good spirits" she added
