ANC-MP Jackson Mthembu was shot while withdrawing money at an ATM in Witbank at the weekend.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala says Mthembu was using the ATM on Mandela Street yesterday, when an armed man approached him from behind and pointed a firearm and instructed him to draw all his money from his account.
When Mthembu turned around, a shot went off and hit him in the cheek.
Mohlala said the armed man and three alleged accomplices went to Mthembu's car, where four of his friends were waiting for him.
They allegedly robbed Mthembu and his friends of their money and cellphones.
Mohlala said Mthembu was rushed to the Witbank hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition.
