PRETORIA, November 27 (ANA) – The meeting of the African National Congress national executive committee (NEC) currently underway at the St George’s Hotel in Irene, Pretoria, has been extended, the ANC said on Sunday evening.
The meeting was scheduled to end on Sunday, but had been extended to Monday, ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said in a terse statement.
It was reported earlier that President Jacob Zuma’s future as ANC president was hanging by a thread after ANC veteran and Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom stunned Zuma and his backers by tabling a motion for him to step down at the NEC meeting on Saturday.
There has also been media speculation that Zuma is planning a Cabinet reshuffle to sideline his opponents.
