ANC members killed in Free State bus crash

At least 10 ANC members returning from the party's election manifesto launch in Port Elizabeth have been killed in an accident in the Free State.

Several other people were injured and taken to hospital.  It's also feared that the death toll would rise.

ANC national spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, said it the party had learnt "with sadness of a fatal accident in the Free State where a bus carrying comrades returning from the ANC manifesto rally in Port Elizabeth overturned".

Netcare 911 said the accident happened between Winburg and Ventersburg in the Free State.

Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said "all (the) injured have been transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care. Some of those who are in a critical condition were airlifted to nearby hospitals for further medical care," she added.

The ANC said the Free State Transport MEC would be visiting the accident scene.

Kodwa said they would release more information once " all pertinent information had been verified".
