The ANC has called on Eskom to fast-track the construction of the Medupi and Kusile power stations to alleviate the strain on the grid that has seen rolling blackouts.
Spokesperson, Khusela Sangoni, says they also call for the enactment of legislation licensing independent power producers.
She was commenting on recent country-wide black-outs which has left domestic and business consumers fuming.
Sangoni says the ANC shares the concerns of many South Africans regarding load-shedding.
"We understand obviously that this has been a culmination of a process that began in 2008 where we saw difficulties to electricity supplies, as a result of the massive and unprecedented connection of millions of South Africans onto their grid. So as we celebrate today more than double the number of people who had electricity in 1994 are now connected-we understand that this will bring it's own problems, which in turn puts strain on the grid" she said.
