Amcu's wage demands in gold sector

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, Amcu, has submitted its wage demands to employers for this year's gold sector wage negotiations.

It is demanding that B-level employees receive a R7 500-rand wage increase or adjustment, in addition to the current basic rates, and that those on C-level receive R7 000.

Amcu wants a 12% increase for those earning more than the rates in these categories.

Business Day reports that Amcu's demands amount to a 100% wage hike for unskilled and semi-skilled workers.

The National Union of Mineworkers has demanded that surface workers receive a minimum of R7 000 a month, and underground and open-cast workers R8 000 a month. It has demanded a 15% increase in all other categories.
