A 33-year-old woman from Thailand accused of trafficking people is in police custody following her arrest last week.
A spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Lloyd Ramovha says Anupong Chaiprasit was arrested at a house in Edenvale in Gauteng after the premises were under surveillance.
He says they introduced themselves once inside the house along Terrace Road and conducted a search.
Seven women from Thailand were rescued and transported to a place of safety.
Captain Ramovha says the victims told them that they were lured into South Africa under false promises of better job opportunities.
He says Chaiprasit was arrested on the spot as she was in charge of the property.
She made her first court appearance on Monday and the matter was postponed for further investigation and for a Thai interpreter to attend proceedings.
