A 51-year-old man will spend the rest of the Easter weekend behind bars after his car collided with the official armoured state vehicle of former President Jacob Zuma in Eshowe.
National Police Spokesperson Brigadier Antlenda Mathe says the former president was not injured in Thursday's accident and quickly evacuated to his residence.
She says the driver will be charged with drunk driving as well as reckless and negligent driving.
Former President Zuma was with members of the Presidential Protection Services when the accident happened.
They too were not injured.
The man will appear in the Eshowe Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
