Alleged body mutilator wants to see his children

The alleged body mutilator Peter Frederiksen appeared in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein in an effort to sort out his legal counsel in the case against him. State prosecutor Amanda Bester told the court Frederiksen's lawyer has withdrawn. She said Frederiksen, a Danish national, will speak for himself on Friday.

The State further informed the court that a family member will be in South Africa within the next two weeks to see how they can try and help him in the matter. Bester also told the court that the Bloemfontein Legal Aid office has also been contacted to see if they can assist them.

Frederiksen asked the court whether he can receive any assistance in efforts for him to see his children. He said that he has been in custody for almost a year now and he has not seen his children. Not even a photo, he told the court. The sitting judge advised him to take the matter up with Correctional Services.

The court postponed the matter to 28 October for Frederiksen to organise his legal counsel.
