A forty-year-old suspected arsonist was arrested on Tuesday after four separate fires were started on Cape Town's Table Mountain slopes.
Cape Town mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the foreign national was found with petrol and other fire making devices and is known in the area.
He said two choppers were assisting, two fire engines were on scene as well as a water tanker.
Table Mountain National Parks was assisting firefighters.
A spokesperson for the City of Cape Town's fire and rescue services, Theo Layne, said the "large vegetation fire" was on the upper slopes of the mountain above the lower cableway station.
