All systems go for matric exams

Eastern Cape political parties have sent well wishes to the thousands of candidates who will be sitting for the 2015 matric exams which got underway on Monday.

ANC provincial spokesperson, Oscar Mabuyane, said they're urging all involved in the examinations to ensure that no one will be involved in cheating of any kind, including copying.

Mabuyane's called on the families, communities, teachers and religious organizations of matric candidates to give them their full support.

Meanwhile, the DA in the Eastern Cape has also urged the Grade 12 class of 2015 to refrain from any untoward behaviour as was exposed in the class of 2014.

DA MPL, Edmund van Vuuren, called on the learners to work hard, burn the midnight oil and make their parents or guardians proud.

The DA said the success or failure of learners would be used as a barometer to determine how well the education system is performing and where interventions are needed the most.

Last year several Eastern Cape and Kwa Zulu Natal exam centres were embroiled in a mass cheating scandal.

According to the Department of Basic Education a  total of 801 688  Grade 12 learners will participate in the National Senior Certificate  examinations.
