Agri SA says a report on shale gas exploration in the Karoo should have been made available for perusal before cabinet made the decision to lift the moratorium on the issuing of exploratin licenses.
Agri SA president, Johannes Moller, says they had not been consulted regarding the activities or findings of the task group established by the Minister of Mineral Resources.
He says Agri SA will participate in the Minister's proposed public consultation processes and strive for international best practice, also in respect of environmental legislation.
Moller says Agri SA will be led by its members in terms of possible agreements with Shell and other developers involved in the shale-gas process.
