AfriForum tries to frustrate legislative processes - Parliament

Parliament has filed an answering affidavit to AfriForum's application in the Western Cape High Court to have the report of the joint Constitutional Review Committee on amending Section 25 of the Constitution, to allow for the expropriation of land without compensation, set aside.

In the affidavit, Parliament argues that AfriForum was deliberately trying to frustrate the National Assembly's legislative processes.

The report, which the committee adopted, will be referred to Parliament and the National Council of Provinces for consideration, as an interim step, similar to a Bill.

Parliament says it is not final, and may be accepted or not.

AfriForum wants to interdict Parliament, because it alleges that the committee should have considered each submission, including those that it admitted, were duplicate submissions.
