AfriForum says it will lodge complaints against Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko, National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega and the Tshwane metro police.
This, after representatives of the organization and farm attack victims were allegedly jostled and threatened with arrest following a wreath-laying ceremony at the minister's office in Pretoria on Monday.
AfriForum's Ernst Roets says the memorandum they wanted to present contained a motion of no confidence in the police department and the police, due to their alleged inability and unwillingness to act decisively against farm murders.
He explained that the organisation complied with all the requirements of the Regulations of Gatherings Act and that the gathering was peaceful and legal.
“Notwithstanding all the proof that the Minister’s office and the Tshwane Metro Police received our notification to hold this gathering, it was alleged that no one was informed about the gathering and that it was, in their opinion, an illegal gathering.” he added
The memorandum was received two hours later by a representative of the police’s security section.
