Africforum calls for mother language education

On the eve of a new school year, AfriForum has called on parents to ensure that their children will be educated in 2015 in their mother language.

According to Alana Bailey, Deputy CEO of AfriForum, matric results annually confirm that pupils who receive mother-language education generally fare better than those who receive instruction in a second or third language.

Besides, education in their mother-language also has a positive influence on the development of children's self-confidence and reasoning ability, according to Bailey.

Bailey also criticized politicians, including the Minister of Higher Education, Dr Blade Nzimande, for relentless efforts to enforce mono lingual English education in South Africa.
