Crime-Line, has raised nearly R2m in additional compensation for the families of police officers, who were killed in the line of duty last year.
Crime Line spokesperson, Yusuf Abramjee says 38-families will each receive R40,000 on Wednesday.
The money was raised during a fundraiser last year.
Abramjee says South Africans have been generous and to date, they've received R1.8m.
"We decided to do this once off initiative, just to show that we as ordinary South Africans care. We know that last year especially police killings were in the limelight it was labelled a national crisis and we decided just to do a small gesture" Ambramjee said.
