A storm has erupted over the use of the Waterkloof Airforce base for the arrival of a private plane chartered by the controversial Gupta family to fly in family and guests for a wedding at Sun City.
The Defence Force has denied giving permission for the base to be used and the Democratic Alliance says it wants the auditor-general to investigate.
Sapa quotes a Gupta family spokesperson as saying that permission had been obtained for the plane to land at the air force base because Lanseria airport could not accommodate the size of plane chartered by the family.
A furore has also erupted over the official police escort accorded to the family which owns New Age newspaper and Sahara computers and has close ties with president Jacob Zuma.

"The Minister of police Nathi Mthethwa and other government departments responsible for allowing the Gupta's free reign of public resources must be held accountable, something that could be used to deliver services to those who desperately need State assistance should not be used to roll out the red carpet for those "friendly to the government". I am therefore writing to the Auditor General Terence Nombembe requesting that he investigate the abuse of public resources for the benefit of the Gupta's" she said.
