Twenty-nine people were killed when a bus collided with a truck near Kwaggafontein in Mpumalanga on Monday night.
The provincial safety department says a bus was stationary on the Moloto-road, and the truck driver did not see it until it was too late.
Department spokesperson, Joseph Mabuza says the truck driver swerved to the right to try and avoid the stationary bus, and collided head-on with an oncoming bus.
He says 26 people died at the scene, and three later died in hospital. Eleven others were seriously injured.
