26 die on SA roads since Sunday


The death toll in reported road accidents countrywide since Sunday has reached 26.

The Department of Transport says one person was killed and 17 injured in a collision between a minibus taxi and police vehicle in Durban on Monday afternoon.

The taxi driver was trapped inside the wreckage and died at the scene.

In northern KwaZulu-Natal, four men died when two bakkies collided on the N11 outside Ladysmith.

In Mpumalanga, four people, including a baby, were killed when two vehicles collided on the R37 near Nelspruit on Monday.

According to ER24, the accident happened when one vehicle overtook another.

Two others also died died in accidents in Waterfall and Pietermaritzburg.

Earlier in Soweto, four men were found dead inside a car after it crashed into a tree, and on Sunday, ten people were killed on the N1 between Leeu Gamka and Beaufort West in the Karoo.
