11 speedsters arrested on Western Cape's ?road of death?

Western Cape traffic authorities arrested 11 motorists for speeding on the notorious N1, dubbed “the road of death”.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the arrests were made over a 56-hour period.

The driver who clocked the highest speed was a 30-year-old man in a Mercedes Benz SUV who was arrested by Laingsburg police after being trapped at 181kph in a 120kph zone.

They also arrested three other motorists who were caught speeding between 160kph and 172kph.

Africa said Beaufort West police arrested the remaining seven drivers.

He said they are all being held in custody at Laingsburg and Beaufort West police stations and will appear in court soon on charges of reckless and negligent driving.
