The export order for engines from Ford's engine plant in Struandale, Port Elizabeth, to the United States announced last year is a tremendous vote of confidence in South Africa.
That's the word from Ford Motor Company Group vice president and president of Asia Pacific, Dave Schoch, who was in Port Elizabeth on Monday to visit the engine plant.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, Shock said that exporting engines to the US for the first time brings with it a high degree of responsibility and accountability for quality and world class competitiveness.
"The fact that we will be exporting these engins out of South Africa into North America is a vote of confidence in the way they think about our capabilities. They have invested in us so they have high expectations in terms of the return, from what I have seen at the plant and what I know of the team here I have got high confidence that we are going to deliver this with world class quality and world class cost competitiveness" he said.
