South African Airways will cease its domestic routes for Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth effective the 1st of March this year.
The embattled National airline went into voluntary business rescue in December.
Its business rescue practitioners announced on Thursday that SAA would continue its domestic route from Johannesburg to Cape Town "on a reduced basis".
They said the measures included targeted changes to the route network, deployment of more fuel-efficient aircraft, optimization of organisational structures and renegotiation of key contracts with suppliers.
They said SAA would continue to operate all international services between Johannesburg and Frankfurt, London Heathrow, New York, Perth and Washington via Accra.
The Business Rescue Practitioners added that to improve the airline's liquidity, rationalisation programmes were underway for SAA's subsidiaries, as as well as the sale of selected assets.
The Freedom Front Plus has meanwhile welcomed Thursday's ruling by the Johannesburg High Court that the SA Express airline must, like SAA, also be placed into business rescue. - ANA
