Two of South Africa's leading motor brands have opened new dealerships in Soweto.
Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe officially opened a VW and a Toyota dealership in an 8,000 square metre property owned by local businessman, Dr Richard Maponya.
VWSA invested R30m in the new dealership while Toyota ploughed in R40m in the venture which includes Barloworld and the Maponya family.
VWSA managing director, David Powels, said the opening of Soweto Volkswagen was one of the key milestones in the history of the Volkswagen Brand in South Africa.
Toyota chairperson, dr Johan van Zyl, challenged other motor brands and related businesses in the automotive industry to follow their lead and invest in Soweto.
