South African Breweries has invested R80 million into the brewing and packaging of Castle Lite beer at its Ibhayi Brewery in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The project, which was unveiled on Wednesday, is the first major upgrade at the Perseverance facility in 15 years.
The packhall upgrade will now be able to handle and label 750 ml and 660 ml bottles.
iBhayi brewery Manufacturing Manager Bryan Versfeld says the R80-million upgrade was made because of a substantial increase in demand for the Castle lite brand in the Eastern Cape.
The brand has seen a double digit growth in the past four years.
Versverld says the first batch of Castle Lites rolled off the new production line on Monday.
