Boardwalk Mall on track for September opening

The developers of the R500 million Boardwalk Mall in Gqeberha, say they remain on track for the official opening in September.

Construction of the first phase of the 17-hectare development by the Flanagan and Gerard Group and Emfuleni Resorts, a subsidiary of Sun International, began last May.

And, according to Paul Gerard, the MD of Flanagan and Gerard, the first retail tenants are scheduled to open this month.

He said with six months to go, the development is comfortably on track to open fully let.

"Currently, only around 2% of the mall's gross lettable area is available to let, with 90% secured and the rest under negotiation, he said.

Gerard also announced the appointment of Gqeberha born and bred Solomzi Nqweni as the Mall's new General Manager, Kirsti Dolinschek, as the Marketing Manager, and Tony van Goeverden, who he says "brings 15-years experience" as the Boardwalk's Operations Manager.

He said the Boardwalk Mall philosophy is all about keeping it local.

"We employ local people and contract local supplier companies wherever possible. Our new management team hit the ground running in March 2022. They certainly have their work cut out for the official opening on 22 September 2022," he said.
