Barclays raises R13bn from sale of first chunk of African unit


Barclays Africa said on Thursday that its UK-based parent had raised approximately R13.1 billion through the sale of 103,592,491 ordinary shares, representing 12.2 percent of Barclays Africa’s share capital.

The shares were sold at R126 each via an accelerated bookbuild placing, which was announced on Wednesday.

Barclays Plc still holds 424.7 million ordinary shares in the capital of Barclays Africa, representing approximately 50.1 percent of its issued share capital.

Barclays Africa shares closed at R134.72 on Wednesday.
