"A new skyscraper in Saudi Arabia is set to be the tallest in the world after the company behind the one-kilometre high tower announced it secured the necessary funding to make the project a reality.
The 200-floor Jeddah, or Kingdom, Tower will include a five-star hotel, office space, restaurants, cafes, spas and the world’s tallest observation deck – at 644-metres in the sky. The observation deck at the world’s current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, sits at 555 metres.
The building will overlook Jeddah and the Red Sea and is scheduled to be complete by 2020.
According to the company’s website, the tower will have 58 high-speed elevators and the world’s fastest double-decker elevators. So far, the structure is built up to the 26th floor.
The current record holder for the world’s tallest building record is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands and over 800 metres, followed by the Shanghai Tower at 632 metres."
