Russia's answer to illegal parking in disabled bays

"To stop inconsiderate parking behaviour in Russia, and to keep disabled parking spots for those who truly are disabled, a brilliant non-profit organisation came up with a campaign that reminded drivers who those disabled parking spots are actually for.

Dislife installed projections of a real disabled person that popped up every time a non-disabled driver tried to park in their space. Special cameras verified the presence of a disabled sticker on windshields and those without the stickers but who still tried to park in a disabled space were confronted by a hologram of a person with a disability.

The image was projected on a backdrop made of a thin-air screen that was saturated with water mist that’s invisible to the human eye.

Once the hologram appeared, audio would also accompany the visual: ‘What are you doing? I’m not just a sign on the ground. Don’t pretend that I don’t exist. Why are you surprised? This is a parking spot for the disabled’.

The holograms were placed in malls and business centres around Russia.

Dislife estimated that more than 30 percent of drivers in Russia take disabled parking spaces illegally. Hopefully this stunt taught them a thing or two."
