Holiday tips for rainy days

Well another week done and dusted! We had a visit from Super Granny… there is so much to write about that visit, that I will do another blog entry during the week.

She was amazing, and one of the things I enjoyed was her ideas for rainy days or just long days at home when the kids are on holiday.

I am sharing her list with you:

TIPS FOR RAINY HOLIDAYS!

These ideas are meant to create a special bonding time between parents and children.

Dress/make-up

I am sure Dad would love a make-over! Have a box with old clothes, hats, jewellery, shoes and make-up. Let them dress each other or mom or dad!

Tent

For a great treat they can sleep in a tent made out of blankets in the living room. Have a nice picnic supper in the tent!

Flashlights

Flaslights are also great to use when playing hide and seek in the house at night!

Board/card games

Board games are vital for learning social interaction skills, waiting for a turn, learning how to lose, maths, cause and effect and the most important of all, family bonding.

Sucking

Suck up a table tennis ball with a straw and drop it into a bucket. Time it and have a competition to see who can do this the fastest!

Card making (for older children)

Use scrap pieces of paper and create birthday cards for friends and family, let the children draw, paint, stick and cut!
Popcorn and macaroni necklaces

Thread popcorm with a needle and thick thread to make an edible necklace! Use macaroni which can be painted. Old buttons also works well and can be worn as fun jewellery!

Feely Bag

Place different items into a pillowcase. Let the child put his hand in the bag to feel and describe what he feels before pulling it out!

Stamping

Cut out shapes from potatoes, dip them in powder paint and stamp onto paper! Sponges can also work!

So far my money raising for the Mrs Madiba Bay entry is going well, sitting on about R2000 J Will keep you updated!
Have a great week
