"In the ‘Unseen Art Project’, Helsinki-based designer Marc Dillon hopes to make art more accessible to the blind and visually impaired by breaking the number one rule of museums: ‘don’t touch the artwork’.
Currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, the project hopes to create an online repository of 3D data, wherein anyone can print out classical artworks using a 3D printer. This would in turn make museums more inclusive to those who want to appreciate art, but do not have the ability to do so.
‘Imagine not knowing what Mona Lisa’s smile looks like, or Van Gogh’s sunflowers. Imagine you heard people talking about them and knew they existed, but could never experience them for yourself’, Dillon explains. ‘For the millions of people who are blind, that’s a reality’.
As of writing, the campaign has raised $7,000 out of the $30,000 it needs to get project going. "
