Two people killed in PE shooting

Port Elizabeth police are investigating a possible link between the shooting of three people in New Brighton on Friday and the ongoing probe into two other murders earlier this week.

Police spokesperson, Captain Andre’ Beetge, said a gunman opened fire on three people busy in a garage in Msimka Street at around 11 am.

“The first victim, Themba Makalima, 25 years old, passed away on the scene,” Beetge said.

He said the other shooting victims were rushed to Dora Nginza Hospital, where 30-year-old Sabelo Ngquphe, died of his wounds.

“The third victim, a 38-year-old male, was wounded in his leg and received medical treatment.  His name is withheld for security reasons,” Beetge said.

He said the motive for the attack is unknown at this stage, but “possible links to the previous murders earlier this week have not been ruled out”.

On Monday Black Business Caucus co-ordinator and SMME leader, Baba Ningi was shot and killed in broad daylight in Zwide. Later that night 38-year-old Nkululeko Ngcakasi was gunned down in Tshawula Street, New Brighton.

Beetge said anyone who has information that could assist police should contact Lt Col Wille Mayi at 082 697 5914.
