Dolphins stranded near Woody Cape

An estimated 20 dolphins are stranded at Woody Cape on the Eastern Cape coastline.

They were spotted on Monday by Eastern Cape EMS helicopter pilot, Andrew de Bruyn and his two colleagues who were flying back to East London after bringing a patient to Port Elizabeth.

He told Algoa FM News that about 5km's before Woody Cape they noticed "a whole lot of dolphins" on the beach.

"We went and had a closer look and we noticed that a few of them were still alive, so obviously they beached recently. We were a bit concerned as some of the dolphins had blood coming out of their mouths and others looked like they had lost skin on their bodies," De Bruyn said.

He said they reported the sighting to the NSRI, while the South African Stranding Network has also been informed.
