PE ambulance crew robbed at robot

The Department of Health in the Eastern Cape has condemned the latest attack on an ambulance crew member and a student, who was accosted and robbed of a cellphone whilst waiting at a traffic light in Port Elizabeth.

Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says the ambulance was travelling with patients from Motherwell to Dora Nginza Hospital when they were accosted at the robots at Daku Road and Seyisi Street on Tuesday.

He says the incident is condemned in the strongest terms as crews are targetted on a weekly basis.

Kupelo says even though nobody was injured in the incident it cannot be tolerated anymore.

He urged communities to work with law enforcement agencies to reclaim their communities.

Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says two armed men approached the ambulance demanding the driver's cellphone.

He says they also grabbed the keys of the vehicle but threw it back towards the driver as they were fleeing the scene

On the 16th of September, another crew was attacked along old Uitenhage Road where both the EMS crew and patient were robbed of their personal belongings.
