One shot and killed, two wounded in PE's Northern Areas

One person has been shot and killed, and two others wounded in separate shooting incidents in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas at the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says in the first incident, 33-year-old Luyiso Johnston was sitting in the lounge of his house in Bethelsdorp, when there was a loud knock on the door.

When he opened the door, several shots were fired at him.

Naidu says he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died in the kitchen.

The motive for the attack is not known and no arrests have yet been made.

In the second incident, a 21-year old man was standing outside a shop in Shauderville with his friends, when a suspect approached and fired several shots in their direction.

The suspect, who is known to the complainant, then fled the scene on foot, but members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested him after he was found sitting in a car not far from the scene.

He is being detained on a charge of attempted murder.

Colonel Naidu says police also responded to a shooting in Kayser Street in Ext.21 in Bethelsdorp on Friday evening, and on their arrival, they found a 38-year-old man receiving medical assistance.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

It is alleged that he was on his way to a nearby shop when he was stopped by three unknown men, and one of them pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the victim.

The motive is yet to be established, and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
