Elderly man perishes in Uitenhage fire

A 76-year-old Uitenhage man has died in a fire that engulfed his informal home in Kwanobuhle.

Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said Nontozinzima Nkwinti, was asleep in his dwelling in Kwatsha Crescent on Thursday night when it caught alight.

She said it was only after the fire had been extinguished by the Fire Department that his body was found.

An inquest docket has been opened and the cause of the fire is not known.
