Port Elizabeth police are investigating whether the petrol-bombing of a truck on the Addo Road at Motherwell on Thursday afternoon could be linked to an earlier protest by a group of residents from Ward 66.
Police said the incident happened at around 2 pm.
Spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, said that the cab of the truck was destroyed.
He said police were deployed to the area in the morning when around 200 residents gathered in front of the Ikamvelihle police station to apparently complain about issues related to their promised relocation.
It is believed that the residents, who are living beneath powerlines, had been promised to be relocated but this project had not borne fruit.
Beetge said the resident dispersed from the police station after being addressed.
"We are looking into the possibility that the petrol bombing of the truck may be linked to the protest" he added.
In the meantime, the Addo Road is safe and police are deployed in the area.
