Police in the Southern Cape are investigating two cases where shots were allegedly fired by farmers during the Uniondale protests.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says they received reports of shots fired in opposite directions of town, allegedly by farmers.
He says in the one incident three people sustained minor injuries and a case of attempted murder is under investigation.
A Service delivery protest broke out in the early hours of the morning which resulted in the N9 between Willowmore and Uniondale being closed for traffic.
Pojie says residents were protesting about several issues, including the downgrading of their fire station, when a farmer allegedly fired at them.
He says they have arrested and charged three people for public violence but have not yet made any arrests in the alleged shootings.
Police recovered shell casings at the one scene but due to the volatile situation on the ground, they were unable to collect all the statements.
Pojie says once their investigation is complete the docket will be given to the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Meanwhile, there are still no access to Uniondale following ongoing service delivery issues.
George Municipal spokesperson, Chantelle Edward-Klose says the N9 is open for traffic now and public order police are still monitoring the situation.
She says since the start of the protest a municipal vehicle has been set alight and a sewerage pump station turned off.
