Counterfeit goods worth millions confiscated in Port of Ngqura


Eastern Cape police have seized counterfeits goods worth an estimated R45 million after a container was seized in the Port of Ngqura outside Port Elizabeth.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, said the find was made on 28 June following a search of a container on a vessel by Border Police, Customs Officials and an agent representative.

She said the counterfeit goods included knock-offs of Tommy Hilfiger belts, Gucci handbags, Smooth Pens, Swiss Gear backpacks and branded watches.

Soci said the counterfeit goods were seized and handed to Customs and Excise officials.

  • 7200 branded sunglasses valued at R10 800 000.00
  • 960 Tommy Hilfiger belts valued at R960 000. 00
  • 52 000 Smooth pens valued at R104 000. 00
  • 360 Swiss Gear backpacks valued at R360 000. 00
  • 400 Gucci sling bags valued at R3 600 000. 00
  • 1 413 branded watches valued at R29 729 400. 00
