A 33-year-old man sustained a flesh wound on Monday after engaging in a confrontation with 4 suspects who tried to rob him in Central, Port Elizabeth.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that the complainant was sitting inside his Hilux in Pearson Street, when four suspects passed him at about 8.40 am.
She says it is alleged that two of the four men approached his vehicle with a firearm and opened the door.
Naidu says when the men allegedly pointed the firearm at him, he grabbed the barrel of the gun and a shot went off.
The man only sustained a flesh wound and did not require medical attention. At this stage it is unclear if the injury was due to the gunshot or if he injured himself during the scuffle.
The suspects demanded money and stole an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot.
A case of armed robbery is under investigation.
