Convicted juvenile in PE to face another murder charge

A Port Elizabeth teenager has been sentenced to an effective 12 years behind bars for killing a taxi driver two years ago.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 15-year-old juvenile got into the taxi in Barberry Drive in extension 31 on a Monday afternoon in June 2017.

He later pulled out a firearm, forced the driver's assistant to get out of the vehicle and shot and killed the 35-year-old Ralph Vorster, who was still seated behind the wheel.

Naidu says Vorster was shot several times.

Two weeks later police spotted the child in Bethelsdorp where he was arrested and detained.

He remained in custody until he was sentenced in the Port Elizabeth regional court on Thursday.

He got 12 years for the murder, six for robbery and five years for the possession of ammunition and a firearm.

Some counts will run concurrently which means that he will serve 12 years in prison.

Naidu says the teenager is also being charged with another murder and attempted murder which took place in January 2017.

He will appear in court on the 14th of July to face the new charges.
