Algoa FM Big Walk Terms and Conditions

RULES:

  1. The Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer is open to everyone who can walk the five kilometres in their own time. It is not a race.
  2. This walk is in support of those affected by cancer and your entry fee, and merchandise bought, is a donation to the fight against cancer.
  3. Entries cost R70 per person. Please visit www.algoafm.co.za and enter on the Algoa FM Big Walk event page. Both Credit, Debit Cards and EFT payments are accepted, for online entries until midnight on Sunday, 20 October 2024.
  4. The EFT payment method will be auto cancelled If no payment is received after 36 hours from entry; and you would need to re-enter.
  5. All entrants must enter for the event online and select whether they will participate in the virtual or physical walks, standard or premium entry. Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer will take place from 8am on Saturday, 26 October 2024 at three locations, Gqeberha, East London and George.
  6. Credit, Debit cards and EFT payments will be accepted for online entries until midnight on Sunday, 20 October 2024. (EFTs are not processed on Saturday or Sundays, so we may as well make our closure at midnight on Sunday)
  7. Late entries will be accepted at Registration, but only debit and credit cards, no cash, will be accepted for payment due to security reasons
  8. All entrants must register to receive their Race number, free T-shirt, and merchandise. Registration and Late Entries will take place from three start points in Gqeberha, East London and George:
    • Pollock Beach grass area, Gqeberha on Wednesday, 23 to Friday 25 October from 12.00 to 18.00

    • Nutting Hall, Galway Road, Stirling, East London on Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25 October from 12.00 to 18.00

    • George Golf Club, 16 CJ Langenhoven Road, George Central, on Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25 October from 12.00 to 18.00

  9. There is no entry fee for a child under the age of 5 years. Please note, no free T-shirt will therefore be allocated as this is not a paid entry. We do not have t-shirts in kids’ sizes but you are invited to purchase merchandise from our extended pink range so that the whole family wears their support!
  10. Entrants under the age of 10 years must be accompanied by an adult and in doing so, the supervising adult/s take full responsibility for these entrants for the entire duration of the event. 
  11. Select Premium On Entry for the opportunity to win a Mammogram valued at R2 000.00. Standard entrants can't upgrade after payment has been received.
  12. Select the Group entry option, enter up to 20 people. You will collect your Group’s race packs from Registration at your start point. Please note your group entry will be packed as a single collection package and you will need to distribute to your group. Or select one courier fee of R100 for delivery to a single address.
  13. Select the Bulk entry option, when entering 21 or more people. If you do not reside in Nelson Mandela Bay, you will collect your Bulk Entry packs from Registration at your start point. Please note your bulk entry will be packed as a single collection package and you will need to distribute to your bulk entrants. Or select one courier fee of R195 for delivery to a single address.
  14. For both group and bulk entries, visit www.algoafm.co.za. Please note bulk entries close at midnight, on Sunday, 20 October 2024.
  15. Entrants living in Gqeberha and Kariega who enter more than 21 people will have their order delivered to their one selected address free of charge.
  16. T-shirts will be awarded to the first 7 500 paid entrants. All T-shirts and any merchandise purchased will be collected at Registration, or couriered to you from 1 October. Please allow five working days for delivery.
  17. Should you cancel your courier service to opt for registration collection, this fee will not be refunded but accepted as a donation to the fundraiser.
  18. Each entrant will receive a Race Number to pin on their t-shirt. Virtual entrants will receive a downloadable race number on their confirmation email.
  19. Please note that merchandise can only be ordered online until midnight, Sunday, 20 October, thereafter it can be purchased at your registration point in your area as per the date and times on Point 8.
  20. Entrants can enter the either the Virtual Big Walk - your own route, any location, your distance, or join one of our three mass starts - it’s all up to you!
  21. Select your physical start point: Pollock Beach, Marine Drive, Summerstrand, Phillip Kahts Stadium, East London or George Golf Club, CJ Langenhoven Road, George Central.
  22. Entrants cannot be guaranteed that they will receive their preferred T-shirt size.
  23. All entrants enter the event at their own risk.
  24. Entrants must accept and adhere to safety instructions given by the traffic officials in their suburbs, and event organisers or their representatives.
  25. Please do not litter – rather take a bag with you and use the walk to clean up the streets where you are walking.
  26. Should the event be cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organisers or sponsors control, NO REFUND of the entry fee will be issued.
  27. Lucky draws will take place after the walk and announced online. Your race number is your entry into the lucky draw. Entrants will be contacted after the walk to arrange collection.

Waiver/Disclaimer

All information provided by entrants is deemed to be true and correct. Entrants confirm that they are fit and healthy enough to complete the five kilometres in their own time and over a course of their choosing. They confirm that they understand that there may be risks related to walking on public roads and pavements. The organisers, sponsors and other stakeholders will not be held liable for any injuries or other claims.

Entrants will abide by the rules and conditions of the event and will obey instructions from traffic officials, the South African Police Services or Metro police.

All entrants grant permission in terms of section 51 of the electronics communication transactions act 25 of 2002 for the free use of images of them participating in the event by means of photographs, video tapes, broadcasts and telecasts. All personal information will remain confidential in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (or POPI Act).

If the participant is a minor, (younger than 18), he or she may not participate unless his or her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have agreed to be bound by these terms.

Disputes

Any dispute by the parties involved in the event should be resolved through negotiation wherever possible. Notice of dispute should be given in writing. The objective is to settle the dispute within 10 (ten) business days from date of receipt of the notification.

If the dispute is not resolved through negotiation, it can be referred by either or both parties to the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (“AFSA”) for administered mediation, upon the terms set by the AFSA Secretariat.

Neither party may withdraw from this clause relating to dispute resolution. This does not, however, restrict the right of the parties to this agreement to approach competent court for relief in the case where urgent relief is required.

Jurisdiction

Any dispute is to be settled in accordance with the legal structure of the Republic of South Africa.

POPI COMPLIANCE:

  1. Algoa FM, based at 5 Upper Valley Road, Baakens Valley, Gqeberha, 6001, will require certain personal information in order to process your entry into the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer and your merchandise requirements. The information will only be used for the purpose of the Big Walk.
  2. It will only be shared with third party for purposes directly related to the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, such as courier delivery and the delivery of prizes.
  3. By providing this information you certify that it has been provided to Algoa FM by you voluntarily.
  4. Failure to share the information will mean that it will not be possible to process your entry into the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer.
  5. Participants may access their personal particulars which are in the possession of the organisers in order to update it if necessary.
  6. Any complaints about the handling of your information should be lodged with the office of the Information Regulator, at IR@justice.gov.za
