Women could soon be popping their own version of the little blue pill, Viagra. A prospect that could help reinvent relationships everywhere and boost many women's self-confidence.
A Dutch firm believes they've solved the problem of low sex drive in females with a unique two-in-one tablet that could be available as soon as 2016.
Lybrido, which needs to be taken three hours before sex, reportedly makes it more enjoyable for women and significantly boosts women's libidos.
The aspirin-sized pill contains a Viagra-like drug in the centre with a testosterone coating.
The combination of drugs boosts low sex drive by working on both the brain and body.
Previous drugs have failed because women commonly struggle with sex drive from a psychological perspective, but Lybrido might offer the answer to this, as well as give women a physical boost too.
Dr Adriaan Tuiten, the founder of Dutch-based firm Emotional Brain which created Lybrido, said that recent trial results on more than 200 women have just finished in the US and are "impressive".
Women in the trial reportedly made love more often and were more likely to reach orgasm, however some suffered from side-effects such as headaches and flushing of the face or neck.
The ideal candidate for the drug is expected to be long-married women for whom sex may have lost its allure.
At some point in their lives, up to 43 percent of women will suffer from a low sex drive. Lybrido may be a perfect solution as it will simply raise a low libido to normal levels. However, critics say that no pill can solve problems such as a broken relationship or eradicate the stress of work and childcare – often the root of a woman's waning sex drive.
