Oscars 2012: Uggie attends the show after all

Uggie, the canine star of “The Artist,” attended the 84th Academy Awards wearing nothing but a dashing black bow tie and a sweet expression.

Alarm bells were raised in mid-February when a spokesperson for the Weinstein Co. told Reuters that Uggie had “not been asked to participate or appear at the Oscars.” This seemed to be confirmed when the dog did not appear on the Oscars red carpet Sunday. But all fears melted away, as Uggie’s mug flashed across the screen during a skeketch with host Bill Crystal.

By all accounts, this will be Uggie’s final awards show appearance. The 10-year-old Golden Collar winner is suffering from a “mystery shaking syndrome” and will now retire from the film industry, according to his trainer.

As we look back on this awards season, it’s safe to say that it wouldn’t have been the same without the four-legged guy who put on a show at the Golden Globes and stole our hearts. See more photos of Uggie at the Oscars below.
