Solar Powered Toilets for Nkandla!

In light (no pun) of the story below, we thought we'd create an advert for Zuma's solar-powered toilets!

Hot on the heels of the media storm about Jacob Zuma's Nkandla residence, the president on Wednesday ordered solar-powered toilets to pilot in the village.

Zuma struck the deal while strolling through the Progressive Business Forum's (PBF) exhibition tent at the Mangaung elective conference.

An excited Geo Heyns of AfricanSanitation promised to deliver the toilets to Zumas KwaZulu-Natal village “early in the new year”.

Zuma, who at one point stuck his hand into a test model toilet at the exhibition stand to test the heat that it generates, described the patent as “revolutionary”.

"Right now, in December, I am going to my village and there are households where we could put this in pilot," Zuma told Heyns. "I want them to bring [the toilets] whilst I’m down there, just to do the experiment."

The loo was patented 7 years ago and one AfriSan Elite toilet unit will cost you R6 500.

But, said Heyns, if the president buys bulk, he’ll knock it down to R4 000 per unit. The toilet is waterless and bakes excrement using solar power.

Zuma visited more than a dozen representatives from a wide range of businesses this morning at the PBF exhibition lounge, ranging from African Rainbow Minerals and Nissan South Africa, to fashion event organisers African Fashion International.
