SA's jet setting loveable doggie dies.

Cape Town - The world's first jet-setting pooch, South African born Oscar Maximus (11), has died in a car accident in California.

Die Burger reports that Joanne Lefson, Oscar's owner, adopted him from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA in 2004 and set off on a world tour with him in 2009. She didn't reveal much about the circumstances of Oscar's death, only that he had been run over by a car.

Dubbed Oscar's World Woof Tour, the journey took them over five continents, 36 countries and more than 200 000km. And they even got married in Vegas!

However, the tour wasn't just for fun, but served to encourage people to adopt pets from animal shelters, and also highlighted the importance of sterilization.

Lefson told the paper that their next trip would have taken them to Nepal in May this year, where Oscar would have carried a prayer flag to Everest's summit. Despite Oscar's death and the massive void it's left in her life, Lefson said she will still be going on the journey.
