Inn Safe Hands is a Foster Cluster Home in the Northern area of the Nelson Mandela Bay - established in 2005 - a non-profit organisation that assists in the prevention, education, treatment, recovery, and reintegration of vulnerable, missing and sexually exploited children.

The purpose and mission is to raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, treatment, research, education, service provision and support for children, young people and families. The aim is for positive and meaningful interaction with individuals, families and society that strengthens relationships and promotes individual and societal healing.

Karen Hermanus plays a very crucial role in the lives of the kids she has fostered and has such employed housemothers.  For funding, they depend on help from various companies and different people to assist them.

So yes the struggle is real and kids being kids they want something different every day, even though they greatly appreciate the peanut butter & jam sandwiches and oranges they receive so they can feed the children daily every little bit helps.

What are their future goals? They’ve been blessed with land restitution where they’ve received a portion of land to build 6 more homes and a haven specifically for women who find themselves in a Gender-based violence environment. Her goal as a woman to is uplift, other women!

The needs of the children are great and they’ve cared for the kids to feel safe, have raised them to be well mannered, and groomed for success. Some of the children do struggle emotionally because of the abuse they’ve been inflicted with however they are very smart children and with a bright future ahead of them, However, sadly they also foster children who struggle with alcohol foetal syndrome. In conclusion, they’ve had amazing developments from the children and even one who’s passed Matric last year.
