Algoa FM Breakfast with Wayne, Lee and Charlie T

A fusion of culture, personality and viewpoints come together to culminate in The Algoa FM Breakfast with Wayne, Lee and Charlie T.

A solid foundation of chemistry, authenticity and relatability is the glue that binds this team together – that and the practical head on Wayne’s shoulders. Or perhaps the no-nonsense-mother-hen manner of Lee. But then again, it could also be the side-splitting jokes from Charlie, always stitched together with kind, big-brother wisdom.

Whatever the basis - there’s no denying that the team’s varying beliefs, life experiences and backgrounds, provide an auditory snapshot into South African culture and in so doing, appeal to a diverse audience which has formed a tight-knit community of “sunrise ambassadors”, who raise their coffee mugs to toast the day with the team.

The show is truly special. It’s the bedrock of breakfast and the home of unharnessed enthusiasm. It’s all things current, underpinned by great music, quick wit, playful banter, barrels of laughter, and a whole lot of HEART!

Wayne Hart

Wayne is a fun, spontaneous, committed, trusted individual and true to his surname has a caring heart. He lives by his motto to “just be kind – it’s simple”.

Co-anchor of the Algoa FM Breakfast Show together with Lee Duru and Charlie T, Wayne has been with Algoa FM since 2006.

He enjoys radio because it plays an integral part in the lives of so many. “Everyone loves music - radio delivers that. Everyone enjoys good company - radio delivers that.

Important discussions need to be had, and radio allows for that. Whether it’s in the background or a presenter speaking directly to me, radio carries a huge sense of companionship.”

Wayne has a keen interest in social media and the evolution of online technology. He feels that social media plays an important role in gathering listeners' thoughts. It allows presenters to connect more closely with listeners.

Lee Duru

Lee Duru’s love of radio as a medium shines through in her bubbly voice and personality when she is on air.

Lee is also a film and television actress. Her television career breakthrough came when she was cast to work with Desmond Dube in his ‘Dube on Monday’ show.

Most recently she appeared in ‘Recipes for Love’ and Murder’ alongside Tony Kgoroge and Maria Doyle-Kennedy.

She was Interviewed and featured in the New York Times for her role as Grace Mahlangu. The series aired both locally and internationally.

When not behind a microphone or camera, she works as a director, language and content supervisor, translator, and subtitler.

A keen cook and wellness enthusiast, Lee describes herself as “an advocate for food equality”.

She is also involved in various entrepreneurial and charity projects.

Lee connects with the listeners in a unique way with her bubbly personality and a laugh which echoes across the airwaves.

Charlton Tobias

Charlton (Charlie T to his fans) has been a presenter on Algoa FM since 1997.

His natural talent and connection with listeners have been honed over the years, and he is a firm favourite of Algoa FM listeners and clients.

Algoa FM’s homegrown prankster is a co-host on the prime-time Algoa FM Breakfast show, a consummate professional and everyone’s best friend in a crowded room.

Charlton is the undisputed king of wit and double entendre (according to him), but where we do agree is that he is the “glue” in the team.

A morning without Charlie T on the radio is like foregoing your morning cuppa.

Even on Saturdays, when Algoa FM fans tune in to his show - Saturday Breakfast with Charlton Tobias.
